General Information DiLEP was created for the Department of Information Science of Ionian University to complete the already existing Laboratory of Digital Libraries in order to support research and teaching in the fields of Digital Libraries and Electronic Publishing. DiLEP provides direct access in reliable Internet resources as well as information on the relevant material of the Library and seeks to upgrade the instructional work that is carried out in order to meet the changing needs of students, teachers e.t.c. DiLEP is caracterized by the specialization in only two scientific fields and that is why it locates websites of the Internet related to:
The sources type vary from magazine articles and conference publications to sites of organizations e.t.c. During the creation of the Portal we tried so that the links concern mainly primary sources and not other gateways. The basic language of the publications of DiLEP is English due to the nature of the examinated subjects. The classification and the subject indexing of the sources intend to the user's immediate familiarization to the environmnet of the interface of the portal and that, explains their unique simplicity and homogeneity. The structure of the classification came from the Library of Congress Subject Headings and sums up to the following categories:
The subject indexing is based in the same headings, plus some extras, which are placed as keywords. The metadata describing each page consist of the title, the keywords and its URL. All references link to HTML pages, and when this is not the case, the page type (f.e. .doc) is noted next to the title. DiLEP was created in the context of a Final Paper of the Department of Information Science of Ionian University from Sarantos Kapidakis and Olga Kolovistea.
