• First of all, I need a definition of the terms "digital library" and "electronic publishing".
• Terminology of the fields of Digital Libraries and Electronic Publishing is confusing and I need a glossary of basic terms.
• A bibliography to introductory resources would be very helpful.
• I would appreciate a recommendation of some general intorductions to Digital Libraries and E-publishing.

First of all, I need a definition of the terms "digital library" and "electronic publishing".

1. Digital library
   • Collection of texts, images, etc., encoded so as to be stored, retrieved, and read by computer.
   • The meaning of the phrase digital library varies tremendously, but one simple definition is the use of computers to store library materials appearing in electronic (digital) format.
   • Digital libraries can include reference material or resources accessible through the World Wide Web. Digitized portions of a library's collection or original material produced for the web can also be included in a digital library.
   • an integrated set of services for capturing, cataloging, storing, searching, protecting, and retrieving information
   • A digital library is a collection of documents in organized electronic form, available on the Internet or on CD-ROM (compact-disk read-only memory) disks. Depending on the specific library, a user may be able to access magazine articles, books, papers, images, sound files, and videos. On the Internet, the use of a digital library is enhanced by a broadband connection such as cable modem or DSL. ...
     
     
2. Electronic publishing
   • a generic term for the distribution of information which is stored, transmitted and reproduced electronically. Desktop publishing forms just one part of the electronic publishing market.
   • Composition of text (and frequently graphic images) using a computer for display in a computer presentation program or on the World Wide Web.
   • Publishing documents in electronic form such as on CD or the Internet.
   • The publishing of professional standard, high quality brochures, direct mailing literature and correspondence, etc. By using word processing and other computer software the user can produce high quality documents economically. It is also known as 'Desk Top Publishing'.
     
   • The production of documents using computerized means such as word-processing and desktop-publishing software, and the distribution of the documents in a format, including hypertext, that is accessible by computer.
